The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that this option for ending the war undermines the foundations of the international legal order and the UN Charter. Putin specifically made the statement ahead of the Global Peace Summit to prevent leaders and countries from participating.
The attempt of Putin, who planned, prepared and carried out, together with his accomplices, the greatest armed aggression in Europe since the Second World War, to present himself as a peacemaker and put forward options for ending the war he started, which undermine the foundations of the international legal order and the UN Charter, is absurd. in a statement by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
As they said in Kyiv, all the ultimatums voiced by Putin have already been heard from Moscow many times and there is nothing new in these latest statements. At the same time, according to diplomats, the timing of their voicing is indicative.
By throwing such signals into the information space on the eve of the inaugural Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, Putin has only one goal: to prevent the participation of leaders and countries in this summit. The appearance of Putin’s statements exactly the day before the start of the summit indicates that Russia is afraid of real peace.
We are convinced that all peace-loving countries that respect the UN Charter and sincerely strive to restore peace in Ukraine are well aware of the real motives of Russian statements and will not allow themselves to be misled. Putin does not seek peace, he seeks to split the world. He is well aware that the powerful voice of peace heard at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland will be the first practical step towards a just world. Russia’s plans are not peace, but the continuation of the war, the occupation of Ukraine, the destruction of the Ukrainian people and further aggression in Europe. Ukraine never wanted this war and, like no one else in the world, wants it to end. But in order to force Russia to abandon its aggression, the efforts of one country are not enough. We need a powerful and effective international coalition of states that share the principles of a just world based on the Peace Formula and the UN Charter, to which it fully complies. The participation of the largest number of countries and international organizations in the inaugural Global Peace Summit is critical in order to force the Russian Federation to abandon ultimatums and move to good-faith negotiations to end the war, rather than propaganda statements under the cover of horrific rocket attacks on Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
