The German Ministry of Finance proposes to use the gas pipeline section built on the territory of the country for its own needs.

German authorities plan to nationalize part of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline located in the country, Spiegel wrote on Friday, June 24th.

According to the publication, the onshore section of the pipeline is intended to be used to connect east and south Germany to a mobile LNG terminal in the Baltic Sea.

Authorities are studying how to cut off part of Russia’s gas pipeline from the rest of the system.

The German Ministry of Economy believes this is an ideal option, because at the end of the gas pipeline there is a complete distribution network with compressors and pipelines through which gas can be delivered directly to southern Germany.

“Technically, the pipeline can be lifted and cut. But serious environmental problems may arise, experts entrusted with the process fear. The area is protected by nature law in accordance with the Natura 2000 regulation, which imposes particularly stringent requirements., “the report said.

According to Spigel, the federal government is using a model that is likely to irritate Vladimir Putin.

Recall that Germany stopped certification of Nord Stream-2 even before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, and after the start of the war with the United States, they said the SP-2 was “dead.”

Polish President Andrzej Duda has called for the dismantling of the gas pipeline.
