The EBU announced the final decision on Eurovision in Ukraine

The broadcasting union noted that they fully understand the frustration that the event could not be held in Ukraine, but it could not be otherwise due to the security framework.

The EBU announced the final decision of the pop regarding the venue of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The broadcaster said that it will not take place in Ukraine, according to the official website.

“Typically, at least 10,000 people are recognized to work on the Eurovision Song Contest, including the crew, staff and journalists. An additional 30,000 fans from around the world are expected to come to the event. Their welfare is our main concern. Therefore, it is imperative that decisions received in connection with a complex live television event be received by broadcast professionals and not by politicians, ”the EBU said.

It was also noted that the rules of the song contest, agreed upon by all participating broadcasters, clearly state that the event can be rescheduled in force majeure situations, in particular, such as ongoing war.

“In response to the EBU Security Questionnaire, several risks were identified that could affect the immediate planning of such a large event, including a‘ serious ’risk of aircraft air raids/attacks or attacks using drones or missiles that can cause significant casualties, ” – emphasized the organizers.

With the possibility of holding the Contest somewhere on the border with a neighboring country, the EBU declared that the technical characteristics of the proposed areas and the lack of the necessary surrounding infrastructure do not meet the requirements of Eurovision.

“Considering all this, the EBU regrets making the decision to move the event overseas and will continue to discuss the issue of finding a niche for the Eurovision Song Contest next year. We look forward to more. cooperation with our member Ukrainian UA: PBC on all these issues “, – concluded the organizers of the song contest.

Recall, the European Language Union said that the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 cannot be held in Ukraine. Their representatives turned to the UK as they finished second this year.
