Vladimir Zelensky held a press conference with his American counterpart Joe Biden. Before this, the presidents signed a bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the United States.
The United States of America will not send troops to Ukraine, but will help provide weapons and economic support. US President Joe Biden announced this on Thursday, June 13, at a joint press conference for the media with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
Biden stressed that the US goal is to strengthen the defense and deterrence capabilities of Ukraine for the long term. He emphasized that any lasting peace for Ukraine must be based on its ability to defend itself now and deter future enemy aggression.
“The United States will help ensure Ukraine’s ability to do the same. Not by sending American troops to fight in Ukraine, but by providing weapons and ammunition,” the president explained.
He emphasized that the signed agreement between the United States and Ukraine provides certain obligations for the United States and Ukraine. In particular, we are talking about:
-
expanding intelligence sharing;
-
continued training of the Ukrainian military at military bases in Europe and the United States;
-
strengthening cooperation between the armed forces in accordance with NATO standards;
-
investment in the military-industrial base;
-
supporting economic and energy renewal, after Russia’s large-scale attack on the energy network.
For example, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement on security guarantees
In total, Ukraine has concluded 16 security agreements: with the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland and Norway.
