As of 12:00 today, June 13, the fire was extinguished. This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of the Kharkov region.
It is noted that this area suffered greatly from the hostile occupation in 2022 – the forests are densely mined, which interfered with firefighters in their work.
Fighting large wildfires is an extremely complex and dangerous task, involving numerous challenges and complications. But doing the same in conditions of mined forests multiplies the risks many times over, the State Emergency Service notes.
So the firefighters were helped by sappers from the State Emergency Service.
They are armed with mechanized demining vehicles, thanks to which they create mineralized strips in the forests to cut off fire. Using mine detectors, they scan the area to secure the movement paths of firefighting equipment. Pyrotechnicians always go ahead of firefighters. Their work saves lives, the State Emergency Service notes.
