The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, signed a decree depriving the former Chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan of state awards, who was exposed for working for the Russian intelligence services. The document was published on the Sandu administration website on June 11.
Gorgan was stripped of the Medal for Military Merit, awarded to him in 2006, and the Order of Loyalty to the Fatherland, awarded to him in 2015.
The order will take effect the day it is signed, and Gorgan can appeal it to the court within 30 days.
It was previously reported that the former Chief of the General Staff of Moldova, Igor Gorgan, who left office in 2021, was an informant for Russian military intelligence for many years.
