The President of Poland believes that it is necessary to send Ukraine an official invitation to join the Alliance.
Poland plans to discuss three main topics at the NATO summit: further strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense capabilities, reviewing NATO’s approach to Russia and realizing Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions. This is what Polish President Andrzej Duda said, PAP reports.
“We must ensure that everyone in NATO achieves 2% defense spending… during the Cold War, NATO countries spent 3% of their GDP on defense, and this spending was so effective that the The West was able to win the Cold War,” he said the Polish leader.
According to him, the implementation of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions includes accelerating its accession to NATO. Duda emphasized that it is necessary to send Ukraine an official invitation to join NATO.
“It is clear to us that Ukraine will not be fully accepted into the Alliance until the end of the war, but this process, in our opinion, must continue, because it is also NATO’s demonstration to Russia that the desire of the Ukrainian people to join the The North Atlantic Alliance is listened to, understood and implemented,” emphasized the president of Poland.
He noted that many NATO countries in their rhetoric towards Russia have returned to the Russia-NATO Founding Act.
“This law has really not existed for a long time, we believe that Russia has repeatedly violated this law that it should be considered dead, it should be considered actually violated by Russia,” concluded Duda .
As you know, the North Atlantic Alliance and Ukraine plan to sign an agreement to expand cooperation in the field of defense technologies and exchange intelligence on Russia’s capabilities in the field of electronic warfare.
