Moscow may store 100 nuclear warheads in the Kaliningrad region, near the border with Poland.
Russia may maintain around 100 tactical nuclear warheads in the Kaliningrad region. This was said by the Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski at a conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Berlin on Tuesday, June 11, writes Ukrinform.
The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry explained how the Russian threat is perceived from Warsaw, emphasizing that the threat is closer than it seems.
“250 km north of Warsaw is the Kaliningrad region, a Russian exclave, with storage space for – according to our estimates – about 100 tactical nuclear warheads. 250 km east is Belarus, where the Russians and Belarusians carried out an attack on the EU border, the Schengen borders,” said Sikorsky.
The minister also pointed out that Russian missiles, fired by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, periodically violate Polish airspace, flying within the country. Because of this, the danger for Europe in this area is “greater than one can imagine.”
“That is, it means that an attack on the EU is quite possible,” said Sikorsky.
Earlier it was reported that Russia decided to unilaterally “change” the country’s maritime borders with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea.
The Kremlin said the level of “confrontation” in the Baltic region required appropriate measures.
