The South Korean military believes it may have been accidental but has fired a warning shot.

South Korea’s military had to fire warning shots as North Korean soldiers breached the border, AP reports.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the incident occurred Sunday morning when a group of North Korean troops crossed the demarcation line inside the demilitarized zone that separates the two countries.

Soldiers carrying construction tools, some armed, reportedly immediately returned to their compound after the South Korean military issued a warning through loudspeakers and fired warning shots. According to the committee, North Korea has not conducted any other suspicious activities.

South Korean media reported that about 20-30 North Korean soldiers entered about 50 meters into South Korean territory after they apparently disappeared. The South Korean military believes it may have been accidental as the area was wooded and warning signs were not very visible.

It was also noted that the DPRK did not fire back.

We remind you that since the end of May, the DPRK and South Korea have been “at war” with wolves. North Korea launches garbage balloons, and from Seoul balloons fly with postcards containing slogans against North Korean leader Kim Jong-in, as well as money, food and recordings of famous singers.

And on June 3, it was learned that the DPRK has temporarily stopped sending garbage to South Korea.

North Korea has launched more than 300 balloons towards South Korea
