British intelligence explained the use of Wagner’s mercenary pilots

The Russian Air Force is likely trying to support an invasion of Ukraine with enough crew.

Russia uses Wagner’s mercenary pilots because it lacks sufficiently trained personnel and suffers heavy casualties in combat. This is stated in intelligence review by the British Ministry of Defense June 24.

It was noted that the use of retired personnel, who are now under contract with the Wagner group, indicates that the Russian Air Force is likely to try at full force and primarily support the invasion of Ukraine with sufficient crews.

“Perhaps, this is due to a combination of the insufficient number of properly trained personnel in Russia and its defeats in combat,” the review said.

Intelligence recalls that the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured the pilot of the Russian Su-25 attack aircraft shot down on June 17, who turned out to be a mercenary of the Wagner group.

During his missions, the Russian pilot reportedly used commercial GPS devices rather than Russian military navigation equipment.

Intelligence speculates that this likely indicates that the aircraft of Wagner’s pilots were older Su-25 models, and the Russian Air Force did not provide Wagner with modern avionics equipment.

Recall that the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a unit of “Wagnerites” in the Donbass.
