Russia said all flights by Russian aerospace forces are conducted in “strict compliance” with international rules for the use of airspace.
Russian aircraft temporarily violated Finnish airspace on Monday, June 10. This was the first incident since the country joined NATO, according to the website of the Finnish Ministry of Defense.
The defense department noted that an unidentified Russian military vessel for two minutes was about 2.5 kilometers deep in Finnish airspace over the Gulf of Finland.
The country’s Ministry of Defense does not rule out that this attack is a continuation of the Kremlin’s efforts aimed at destroying Finland’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The department notes that the Kremlin is also conducting several information operations aimed at positioning Finland as an enemy of Russia and Russians. It is necessary to create information conditions to justify potential future aggression against the country.
The Russian defense ministry clarified that the long-range aircraft carried out scheduled flights in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Baltic, Barents and Norwegian seas. They emphasized that all flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces are conducted in “strict compliance” with international rules for the use of airspace.
Earlier it was reported that Russia decided to unilaterally “change” the country’s maritime borders with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea.
Let’s remember that Finland has previously said that Russia, although it is unlikely to directly attack NATO countries, will continue with hybrid attacks, such as signal jamming and interference in elections.
