The European Council on the evening of Thursday, June 23, published the conclusions of the meeting on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the European Union. The text of the decision is published on the website of the Council.

“The European Council recognizes the European perspective of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia. The future of these countries and their citizens is in the European Union. For the membership of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia”.
The document also states that the European Commission was asked to report to the Council on “compliance with the conditions specified in the Commission’s findings on relevant applications for membership under its regular expansion package.”
“The Council will decide on further measures once all these conditions are fully met,” the EU stressed.
Regarding Georgia, it noted that the European Council “is ready to grant Georgia the status of a candidate country after resolving the priorities indicated at the conclusion of the commission on Georgia’s application for membership.”
“The development of each country in the European Union depends on its own merits in line with Copenhagen standards, particularly on the EU’s ability to accommodate new members,” the conclusions said.
Recall, on the eve of the EU Council granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for entry into the European Union. The decision was fully supported by all 27 community leaders during the summit in Brussels.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called this event one of the most important for Ukraine in all 30 years of independence.
