The Swiss Federal Council decided to transfer this amount to Kyiv, which should go to support the field of digitalization and e-government for four years. The money will come as part of the Electronic Governance for Government Accountability and Public Engagement (EGAP) project, which promotes the digital transformation of Ukrainian authorities and has been supported by Switzerland since 2015. This was reported by the press service of the Swiss government.
During 2024-2028, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will allocate 58.7 million Swiss francs, it said.
In addition, this money will have to be directed to projects in Ukrainian regions that have suffered from the war and are important for the future reconstruction of Ukraine. The main areas of focus are healthcare, education and humanitarian demining.
Berne will officially announce the assistance at the next Ukraine Reconstruction Conference, which will take place on June 11-12 in Berlin.
Let us remind you that on June 3, the Upper House of the Swiss Parliament rejected the allocation of aid to Ukraine in the amount of $5.5 billion. Lawmakers said the package violated Switzerland’s so-called “debt brake” provision and rejected it two weeks before the Swiss government is due to hold a high-level summit aimed at helping bring peace to Ukraine.
