First, several text messages were exchanged between them, followed by a short video call. This was reported by the British publication Metro, citing a statement by the British government.
It is noted that Cameron became “suspicious” after the fake Poroshenko asked for contact information during the call.
Contact details of others were requested and, given his concerns, the Foreign Secretary stopped responding, the British government said. “The ministry has now conducted an investigation and confirmed that it was not real and that the messages and video call were a hoax.”
The British government noted that it would make this information public in case an attempt was made to manipulate the corresponding video recording of Cameron, and also “so that others are aware of this risk.”
