Every day, several hundred people from countries of the Middle East and North Africa try to cross illegally from Belarus to Poland.
Polish President Andrzej Duda is meeting with the country’s National Security Council over the situation on the border with Belarus. The official website of the President of Poland writes about this on Thursday, June 6.
“Regarding what is happening recently and in recent months on the eastern border, I decided to call the National Security Council that I don’t want to do it now, during the election campaign, because there are a lot of emotions and the situation is really very heated,” said Duda speaking to journalists in France and added that the meeting will probably take place on Monday, June 10 at 16.00, when the election will be over.
The Polish leader expressed hope that representatives of all political forces will attend the meeting.
“These precedents require discussion both from the point of view of the rules that should be adopted, because the Polish army needs them and from the point of view of this situation that occurred on the Polish border, i.e. the detention of the Polish military after the pre-emptive shots on the Polish-Belarusian border,” said the Polish President.
“If the soldiers were treated unjustly, they deserve an apology, and this needs to be discussed with the most serious politicians who decide the country’s affairs and the country’s future,” the Polish president stressed.
It is known that a scandal has erupted in Poland due to the imprisonment of two military officers who fired a warning shot in the direction of a large group of illegal migrants.
Poland will strengthen its border with Russia and Belarus at a cost of €2.3 billion
