He shared his impressions in a commentary for the Left Bank publication.
We have been planning to mobilize for a long time. Since winter, we have been preparing, going through the VLK, and are undergoing training. “We are members of the Zhadan and Dogs group, there are three of us,” he said.
Zhadan’s service will be held at the Charter. This brigade began in Kharkov.
This is our big family. We helped create it, stood at its origins, supported it as volunteers… When there was a poetry evening at the Sports Palace in Kyiv, I was already a recruit and wrote an application for leave – the management treated me with understanding, they let me go. Moreover, it was a charity evening and we donated all the money we earned to Charter,” said the writer.
We’ll see what happens next with creative activity. For now, I repeat, we are recruits,” Zhadan added, noting that it is too early to talk about what exactly he will do in the army.
Evgeniy Turchinov, musician of the group Zhadan and Dogs, also announced the decision to mobilize.
The 13th operational brigade “Charter” (13 BrOP) is part of the National Guard of Ukraine. After the Russian invasion began in 2022, the DFTG “Charter” was created in Kharkov, part of the 127th TRO brigade. The unit took part in the battles for Kharkov and near Kharkov. In the winter of 2022 he fought near Bakhmut. At the beginning of 2023, it was reorganized into the 13th NSU Brigade as part of the “Advance Guard” campaign.
In June 2022, Zhadan was awarded the German Booksellers’ Peace Prize for his “outstanding artistic work as well as for his humanitarian stance in reaching out to people in war and helping them at the risk of his life.”
