However, the current supply of shells does not allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to effectively resist the Russian invaders. In particular, near Volchansk in the Kharkov region, the enemy still maintains an advantage in ammunition – the ratio is five to one. This is discussed in a new report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It is noted that one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen said that the shells provided by Western countries had already begun to “leak” onto the front line, but had not yet acquired significant proportions. And the Russian army continues to have a “significant advantage” in ammunition.
Analysts note that the Russian army is trying to achieve tactically and operationally significant advantages before US military assistance arrives in full at the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front.
The initial arrival of weapons provided by the West will take some time to have a tactical and operational effect, the report says.
Let us recall that at the end of June the Czech Foreign Ministry announced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive from 50 to 100 thousand large-caliber shells per month. Deliveries of large quantities of ammunition to Ukrainian troops within the framework of the Czech initiative were promised to begin in June of this year.
However, the Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine was financially supported by only four countries – Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and Portugal.
