The Governor of the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, Vasily Golubev, confirmed a fire at the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery on the evening of Thursday, June 6, RosSMI reported.
He said the cause of the fire was a UAV attack.
“As a result of the UAV attack, a fire broke out at the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery was working in the area,” the official said, adding that information about the victims was clarified.
He later reported the extent of the fire.
“According to preliminary data, the fire has spread over an area of 50 square meters in NZNP. About 120 people and 15 pieces of equipment are involved in extinguishing the fire at a safe distance. The use of a fire train is being prepared. ,” – reported Golubev.
Meanwhile, local residents write on social networks that they heard about nine explosions with an interval of up to 50 seconds, after which the fire broke out.
Earlier, many photos appeared on social networks showing a huge fire at an oil refinery that night.
Previously, UAVs attacked the plant several times. For the first time, in June 2022, a UAV crashed into an oil processing plant, after which a fire broke out.
In 2024, attacks on this refinery continued. So, the attack on the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery took place on March 13. Then the plant was forced to suspend work. And on April 12, the plant was attacked by four drones. One of the downed drones fell into the territory of the plant.
