On February 24, 2022, the border guard fled from service to the temporarily occupied territory of the Lugansk region, but his wife received payments for him as a prisoner of war. Law enforcement officers informed both of them of suspicion.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General and the State Bureau of Investigation.
Investigators found that on February 24, 2022, the master sergeant voluntarily left his duty station in the border service department in the Starobelsky district of the Luhansk region. He left for the occupied territory, where his wife lived.
They asked that all payments due as a prisoner of war be credited to the specified card. The woman told the leadership of the border guard’s military unit that he had allegedly been captured by the Russians.
Based on this, she received payments provided for the families of prisoners of war.
In total, the border guard and his wife received more than 2.6 million hryvnia in assistance. At that time, the military man himself tried to get a job in the illegally created “law enforcement agencies” in the occupied part of the Luhansk region.
