General Abyar is a member of Iran’s Quds Force, a branch of the IRGC that operates primarily in other countries. He has been in Syria since 2012.
As a result of Israeli airstrikes near Aleppo (Syria), a general of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, sent to the country as an adviser, was removed. This was reported by The New York Times in connection with the Iranian media.
Tasnim News, an agency affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, identified the Iranian as General Saeed Abyar. He is believed to be the first Iranian killed by Israel since the two countries nearly went to war in April when Israel bombed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, killing several commanders. Iran retaliated by attacking Israel with three hundred drones and ballistic missiles, after which Israel launched a missile attack on an Iranian military base.
General Abyar was noted to be a member of the Iranian Quds Force, an IRGC unit that operates primarily in other countries. He has been in Syria since 2012, helping the Damascus government wage a civil war with opposition forces. The Quds Force currently uses Syria as a regional headquarters to coordinate and arm militia groups in the region known as the “axis of resistance,” including Lebanon, Iraq and the West Bank.
According to Tasnim, Israel attacked several targets around Aleppo on Saturday night and Sunday morning, killing 17 people and wounding 15.
The dead included Iraqis, Syrians and members of the Lebanese Hezbollah, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. The target of the attack was a copper factory and a weapons depot.
It was previously reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has decided how it will launch counterattacks against Iran and its allies.
