The Taliban is trying to “rehabilitate itself in the eyes of the world community” and build trade relations with its closest neighbors, they believe in Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh authorities decided to exclude the Taliban organization from the list of terrorist organizations. The President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, announced this on Monday, June 3, at a meeting with participants in a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Kazinform reports.
“Kazakhstan removed the Taliban regime from the list of terrorists, based on the importance of developing trade and economic cooperation in modern Afghanistan and the understanding that this regime is a long-term factor,” explained Tokayev.
He added that “Afghanistan’s active participation in interregional relations” is one of the strategic goals.
Tokayev called for support for Kazakhstan’s initiative to create the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty.
The Taliban took power in the country in 2021 following a successful military offensive on the Afghan capital Kabul. Most countries in the world do not recognize them as legitimate authorities.
After the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, drug production in the country increased. This was said by the director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan, Habibullo Uakhidzoda.
