We are talking about a system that is currently deployed in Kuwait, but will soon return to Italy.
The journalists’ interlocutor did not specify the delivery time for SAMP/T to Ukraine.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Italy has accepted eight support packages for the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky. The air defense system is likely to be part of the ninth package, which could be approved soon, the source added.
All shipments are covered by state secrets, and the government has never released an exact list of weapons it sent to Ukraine.
The Corriere della Sera newspaper reported on Monday, June 3, that the government could give the green light to new supplies after the Group of Seven leaders’ summit, which Italy will host from June 13-15.
