The Mongolian public movement “No to War” staged a protest against Lukashenko’s visit to the country. Activists went to Sukhbaatar Square in the capital, where they were detained by police.
The leader of the movement was kept in the department for 2.5 hours. He noted that this was already the 112th rally in support of Ukraine, but now activists were also protesting against Lukashenko’s arrival.
Lukashenko is a war criminal under international criminal law. Since Mongolia has joined the Convention, it is obliged to arrest Lukashenko as soon as he arrives in Mongolia. However, declaring this a high-level state visit and hosting this person in the country for four days under first-class security is an act subject to international sanctions. This is behavior that should not exist in Mongolia’s foreign policy. Lukashenko is an ally of the head of Russia Putin. His visit was opposed because, according to the Criminal Code, he is a war criminal,” explained the political leader of the action.
Participants in the movement said they would record the beatings and complain about illegal detention.
