Robb Elementary, the school’s shooting area where 19 children and two teachers were killed in May, will be destroyed, according to Mayor Don McLaughlin in Walta, Texas.
McLaughlin, who spoke at a city council meeting Tuesday, did not know when the demolition will take place, but confirmation came after a conversation he said he had with school district superintendent Hal Harel. CBS News reported.
Several school shooting sites, including Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, in 1999, and Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018, remained intact after the massacre on their campuses. .
The Columbine High Library was demolished and rebuilt as the Library of Hope. According to CNNE Marjory Stoneman Douglas High replaced the school building.
The modified buildings were where most of the deaths occurred, CNN reported.
Sandy Hook Elementary decided to demolish an entire school after shooting 20 students and six adults in 2012. The school reopened after four years.
Texas Senator Roland Gutierrez (D. San Antonio) said last month that President Joe Biden is seeking a federal grant to oust Rob Elemental.
“Any parent I talk to who doesn’t want to see this school again has been traumatized,” Gutierrez said.
“Every kid I talk to is afraid to go to school.”
