Doctors examine more than 11.5 thousand Ukrainians diagnosed with HIV infection, and more than 10 thousand people are prescribed antiretroviral therapy.
More than 2 million patients were tested for HIV last year, and almost 13 thousand of them received positive results. The number of HIV tests in medical institutions of Ukraine in 2023 increased by 39.6% compared to 2022. This is reported by the Center for Public Health.
“On January 1, 2024, 12,925 positive HIV tests were detected. The test result was 0.6% compared to 0.9% in 2022. The use of rapid HIV test was 56% compared to 42% in 2022 year,” said the message.
Last year, doctors took under the observation of more than 11.5 thousand Ukrainians diagnosed with HIV infection, and more than 10 thousand people were prescribed antiretroviral therapy.
The number of provider-initiated HIV tests increased by 4% (25% in 2023 vs. 21% in 2022). The number of patient requests on their own initiative increased by 2% (17% in 2023 compared to 15% in 2022).
Of the total number of people diagnosed for HIV in 2023, 8% are pregnant women, and another 8% are representatives of “main groups for HIV infection.”
The “major groups” for HIV infection include:

sexual partners of HIV-positive people;

people who inject drugs;
-
men having sex with men;
-
persons providing sexual services;
-
persons detained in prisons and pre-trial detention institutions;

persons removed from penal institutions;
-
transgender people (this concept was first added to the law in Ukraine in 2023).
According to the results of the first quarter of 2024, the number of HIV testing services in Ukraine increased by 39.9% compared to the same period in 2023, and by 111.8% compared to 2022. The total number of HIV testing decreased in first quarter of 2024 (0.5% compared to 0.8% in 2023) as review volumes increased significantly.
