Vandals who destroy works of culture are attacking the most noble part of the unity of France – culture, the official believes.
French Culture Minister Rachida Dati appealed to the country’s Minister of Justice with a request to introduce criminal liability for protests in museums and art galleries, among which masterpieces of art. Le Figaro newspaper reported this on Sunday, June 2.
“The destruction of the art of criminals cannot be justified in any way. – wrote the minister.
Dati sent an appeal after an activist of the Riposte Alimentaire (Food Retribution) group covered a Maki painting of impressionist Claude Monet with a piece of oilcloth at the Orsi Museum in Paris.
The female activist was wearing a T-shirt that read “+4 degrees is hell.” Riposte Alimentaire explained that the activist showed a “nightmare version of an image of a poppy field in 2100, destroyed by fires and drought.”
Earlier, Italian environmental activists pasted images of the devastating effects of climate change on a glass panel protecting Botticelli’s famous painting, The Birth of Venus.
Environmental activists poured soup on the world famous painting Mona Lisa (La Gioconda) by Leonardo Da Vinci at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
