The PRC army will act “resolutely” against “Taiwanese separatists” and stop them by force, Chinese Defense Ministry chief Dong Jun stressed.

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said on the sidelines of a security conference Shangri-La Dialogue in Singaporethat those who try to separate Taiwan from China will “be crushed and fail.” DW reported this on June 2 in connection with China’s state broadcaster CCTV.
According to the Chinese minister, the Chinese army will act “resolutely” to end the independence of the island.
He also accused Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party of gradually “undermining the island’s Chinese identity.”
“These separatists have recently made bigoted statements that show their betrayal of the Chinese nation and their ancestors. They will be impaled on the stake of shame in history,” Dong Jun insisted.
The politician says that China is committed to peaceful reunification on the island, but that this is being prevented by Taiwan independence forces.
Taiwanese authorities called the PRC representative’s comments “provocative and irrational”. The Mainland Affairs Council, which oversees policy toward Beijing, reiterated that China has never ruled the island.
It can be recalled that tensions in the Taiwan Strait increased after President Lai Qingde, whom China called a “separatist,” took office on May 20.
As is well known, Beijing considers the democratically governed island as its territory and is increasing military, political and economic pressure to assert rights there. The Chinese army periodically conducts exercises near Taiwan.
