Poltava police found the dead 12-year-old missing Daria Voloshina and detained a 57-year-old resident of Poltava with a criminal record who is suspected of her murder. The press service of the Poltava region police reported this on Saturday, June 1.
The girl went missing on the night of May 26. The search lasted for more than four days. The child’s body was found in a belt of forest.
Police reported that the killer tried to destroy traces of the heinous crime to avoid accountability.
“He took the child out of the center of the region in his own car, killed him and hid the body in a forest belt, however, operatives and investigators, along with a polygraph examiner, obtained evidence of his involvement in the disappearance of Daria.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: “Intentional killing of a child” and “Commitment of sexual acts against a person under the age of fourteen, regardless of his voluntary -according.”
For the crime committed, the suspect may be imprisoned for life.
Last year, it was reported that a 9-year-old girl, who was put on the wanted list the day before, was found dead in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. It later emerged that the boy had been raped and killed by his uncle.
The killer received a sentence of life imprisonment.
