The country’s Prime Minister said that the fighters that Brussels is transferring to Kyiv can only be used on Ukrainian territory.
Belgium does not allow Ukraine to use its weapons, including F-16 fighter jets, to attack Russian territory. This is what Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said in a conversation with journalists on Friday, May 31, Belga reports.
De Croo recalled that last week Belgium signed a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine, specifically providing for the supply of 30 F-16 fighter jets – the majority from Ukrainian allies.
“But the agreement is very clear, we are talking about fighters that Ukrainians can use on Ukrainian territory.
He noted that it is necessary, first of all, to ensure that the United States and other NATO countries can continue to provide military support to Ukraine.
“There is a big need for air defense. Combat aircraft can help with that, but other things will be needed. So we have to look at how we can provide faster and better equipment,” said De Croo.
The publication recalls that before this, Belgian Defense Minister Ludine Dedonder also said that Belgian military equipment can only be used on the territory of Ukraine.
We remind you that this week it became known that Belgium will provide Ukraine with 30 F-16 fighters in 2028. The first aircraft will be delivered this year.
Belgium and Ukraine have also signed a security agreement. Belgium guarantees that it will provide timely security assistance to our state.
