The State Bureau of Investigation did not provide specific numbers on the number of criminal prosecutions involving unauthorized discharge.
The task of the State Bureau of Investigation is to help soldiers who leave their duty stations to return to combat positions, and not to increase the statistics of criminal proceedings for evasion of service. This was said by the director of the SBI, Alexey Sukhachev, in a commentary to Interfax-Ukraine.
“Our task is to facilitate the return of fighters to combat positions, and not to improve the statistics of open criminal proceedings for evasion of service,” he said.
The head of the State Bureau of Investigation emphasized that the priority in this issue is preventive measures and explanatory work.
Sukhachev did not provide specific figures for the number of criminal proceedings regarding unauthorized departure from duty, but noted that these statistics do not affect Ukraine’s defense capability.
The director of the State Bureau of Investigation emphasized that there are already a set of measures to quickly establish the whereabouts of each serviceman who left the unit and return him to his place of duty.
“A set of measures was developed together with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the military law enforcement service, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police, which allowed us to quickly establish the location of each serviceman who left the unit without permission and return him to his place of service.
We would like to remind you that earlier in the Carpathian region a deserter was detained and suspected of boasting that he would never return to service and inciting other military personnel to flee.
