A private collector bought the watch for almost three times the starting price of 24.6-37 thousand dollars.
Winston Churchill’s pocket watch, given to him by Henry Asquith in 1905, has been sold at auction. The BBC reported it.
The accessory went under the hammer for 93 thousand dollars. The watch is made of 18-karat gold. The case is engraved with the coat of arms and inscription: “To Winston with thanks to HH Asquith for Christmas 1905.”
It is understood that a watch belonging to Churchill has gone to a private collector in the UK after a “fierce battle” at an auction in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
The gift is believed to be in recognition of Sir Winston’s “bold step” in 1904 when he defected to the Liberal Party over disagreements with the Conservative leadership over its position on tariff reform.
The politician who presented the watch to the Prime Minister, Henry Asquith, was a prominent member of the Liberal Party in the early 20th century. He also served as Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916, when Britain entered the First World War.

It was previously reported that Sylvester Stallone has put 11 of his rare luxury watches up for auction at Sotheby’s.
