In court, Smirnov stated that he does not know where part of the assets referred to in the petition are. At the same time, the prosecutor said that Smirnov and one of the defendants in the case, Vasily Astion (a lawyer from the association defending Smirnov), were confused about the data regarding the loan that Astion provided to Smirnov’s brother.
According to the investigation, from 2020 to 2022, Smirnov acquired assets worth UAH 17.1 million. And his savings and official income for this period amounted to 1.3 million rubles.
Bail must be paid no later than five days from the day the preventive measure is chosen.
NABU and SAPO suspect Smirnov that from 2020 to 2022 the official received assets worth UAH 17.1 million, having savings and official income for this period in the amount of 1.3 million. To hide the presence of this property, the official registered it in the name of his native brother and friend.
The volume of illegal enrichment amounted to UAH 15.7 million.
We are talking about two cars (Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen), two motorcycles (Honda and BMW), three parking spaces in Kyiv, an apartment in a prestigious residential complex in Lviv and a plot of land in Transcarpathia.
Smirnov was informed of suspicion after he was fired from the Office of the President.
The investigation believes that most of the property is registered in the name of his brother, but the official retained the right to dispose of it. The Honda motorcycle was registered to Smirnov’s friend and lawyer. However, the lawyer does not have the right to drive motorcycles.
Separately, the prosecutor drew attention to the fact that Smirnov has connections with the chairmen of the highest courts and heads of government bodies. In particular, the evidence obtained indicates that Smirnov gave instructions to the chairman of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyazev.
