Improper storage of hazardous medical waste can lead to increased infections.
Businessmen of Zhytomyr were exposed for violating the standards for disposal of infectious hazardous medical waste, which could lead to the spread of infectious diseases. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General on Tuesday, May 28.
According to the investigation, the management of a private business with a license to dispose of hazardous waste organized an illegal scheme for providing services to increase income.
In 2022-2023, the suspects entered into agreements with health care institutions in Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions for the collection and disposal of infectious hazardous medical waste, although they did not have the necessary capacity and facilities to storage for their storage.
Businessmen found such a place and ensured the transportation of waste from medical institutions.
During the searches, law enforcement officers discovered the garbage in an area of more than 300 sq.m. These include droppers, syringes, catheters and other disposable devices. They are stored in violation of licensing requirements and waste laws, which can lead to the spread of infectious diseases.
Suspicion was revealed against the director and three co-owners of a Zhytomyr private enterprise. They were charged with violating sanitary rules and standards for the prevention of infectious diseases. The question of what steps the suspect can take has been decided.
We remind you that earlier law enforcement officers detained businessmen from the Zhytomyr region supplying Ukrainian granite to Russia. The material was used to make Russian military monuments.
