HACS extended the terms of the duties of the ex-chairman of the Supreme Court: to come to the court prosecutor upon first request, not to be removed from Ukraine, to refrain from communicating with witnesses, to hand over passports for traveling abroad pic.twitter.com/Mlpuuzybl1— Transparency International Ukraine (@TransparencyUA) May 27, 2024
It is noted that Knyazev must still come to the court prosecutor at the first request, not leave Ukraine, refrain from communicating with witnesses, and hand over his passports to travel abroad.
The defense argued that the prosecutor did not provide any evidence confirming the existence of risks. Knyazev also stated that the bracelet affects his health.
Knyazev’s case
On May 15, 2023, the head of the Armed Forces was caught taking a bribe of almost $3 million. For this money, he had to make a decision in favor of businessman Konstantin Zhevago in the case of the Poltava mining and processing plant.
On May 16, the Court dismissed Knyazev, and he was subsequently arrested with an alternative bail of UAH 75 million. After that, the court reduced the bail seven times – the last time to 18.168 million. On January 31, 2024, this amount was paid and Knyazev was released from custody. The suspect was imposed certain obligations: not to leave Kyiv without permission from law enforcement officers and the court, to hand over his passport and travel documents, and to wear an electronic bracelet.
