US-provided HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems have arrived in Ukraine.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov wrote about this on Twitter.
The summer will be hot for the Russians, the last for many of them,” the minister commented on the news and thanked his American colleague Austin for the new weapon.
Washington has so far sent only four such installations to Kyiv.
On the evening of June 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United States for linking Ukraine to “modern HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems.” According to him, in Kyiv “they are working to bring the volume of deliveries of modern combat systems to a higher level.”
It is not known exactly how many MLRS Ukraine wants to get, but, according to experts, four launchers will not be able to turn the tide of hostilities.
Ukraine needs hundreds of multiple rocket launchers. Aleksey Arestovich, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, called the four HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems that the Americans are transferring “training”, then they “will arrive in commercial quantities.”
I think that there is nothing to say less than about the division (18 installations), most likely, there will be more – two or three, we’ll see, – Arestovich said.
The fact that this number of launchers is only the first batch was also spoken at a briefing by a representative of the Pentagon. He also said that they would be used for training. However, he did not specify when and how many systems will be delivered in the future.
The United States is not the only country transferring multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine. On June 2, it became known that the UK was going to supply Ukraine with several M270B1 MLRS systems, which differ from the wheeled HIMARS in a tracked chassis and twice as much ammunition, but their exact number and timing of supply are unknown. The UK is armed with 35 such systems.
