The occupiers were unable to achieve success due to the premature start of offensive operations and the refusal of the Russian command to use maximum reserves. Although on May 10, the Russian Armed Forces managed to surprise the Ukrainian Armed Forces and achieve tactically significant successes in less protected areas of the Kharkov region. This is stated in a new report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts recalled that yesterday the DBI began to investigate why certain units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces abandoned their positions in the area of the villages of Lipki and Volchansk. Investigators believe that thanks to this, the Russians were able to advance to the second line of Ukrainian defense. However, an insufficient number of units did not allow the Russians to advance deeper into the Kharkov region.
ISW believes that the decision of the Russian command not to immediately attract significant reserves did not allow the occupiers to achieve quick successes and deeper penetration.
Military experts also noted that the Ukrainian Defense Forces were able to gain a foothold in defensive positions in the area. And the Russians have already used their tactical opportunity to achieve relatively quick successes against positions that have strengthened and controlled the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Let us remind you that on May 24, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that the Defense Forces stopped the Russians in the Kharkov direction. Next, the Ukrainian military plans and carries out offensive actions to restore the lost position.
President Vladimir Zelensky convinces that the breakthrough ended in military casualties in the ratio of one Ukrainian to eight Russians.
