Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopirkin was sent back to Moscow for consultations on Friday, May 24.
Russia recalled its Armenian ambassador to Moscow for consultations. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on Friday, May 24.
The department’s website states that Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopirkin is being returned to Moscow for consultations on May 24.
Journalists asked Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the reasons for recalling the ambassador from Yerevan.
“Ambassadors come from time to time for consultations,” answered the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
When asked if the ambassador of Armenia will be recommended to travel from Moscow to Yerevan for consultations, Lavrov replied: “All that has been announced has been announced that the advisers, the first secretaries, the attachés will come.
As you know, tensions are growing in relations between Russia and Armenia. In February, Armenia suspended its participation in the CSTO. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that Yerevan can no longer rely on Russia as its main defense and military partner. The Armenian authorities also decided to stop funding CSTO activities.
Yerevan said that all Russian border and military checkpoints located after 2020 in five regions of Armenia will cease their activities.
