Currently, Ukrainian refugees can freely choose a country for temporary protection, which is valid until March 4, 2025.
Germany is concerned about the large influx of Ukrainian refugees into the country and proposes to distribute them equally among all the states of the European Union. This statement was made by German Interior Minister Nancy Feser on Friday, May 24, Welt wrote.
According to the head of the German Interior Ministry, Berlin believes that the discussion of the joint distribution of asylum seekers is “specifically related to secondary migration from other EU member states.”
As the publication points out, citing Eurostat data, Germany has accepted 20 times more Ukrainian refugees than, for example, France.
“In March 2024, there are about 1.30 million refugees from Ukraine in Germany. Another 960 thousand Ukrainian refugees settled in Poland and about 360 thousand in the Czech Republic. But if the number of Ukrainian refugees in Poland has possibility to decrease, in Germany it is on the contrary, it is growing,” journalists pointed out.
Experts suggest that the migration of refugees is facilitated by the size of the aid money.
“Ukrainians in Germany receive assistance in the amount of 563 euros per month for single people. In Sweden, they are paid only 180 euros per month, as a rule, permanent financial assistance is not provided ,” the newspaper said.
Let’s remember that before Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, between 1.5 and 2 million Ukrainians lived in Poland; However, today the number of refugees from Ukraine has decreased to 950 thousand.
