Drones destroy an important radar station in Russia – media

First, drones destroyed the Voronezh-DM radar in the Krasnodar region, and a few hours later a satellite communications center near Alushta in Crimea was attacked.

Ukrainian drones hit the Voronezh-DM over-the-horizon radar station located in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation. Defense Express reported this on Friday, May 24.

It was noted that yesterday information appeared online about a possible drone attack on a Russian radar station near the city of Armavir. And now photos have been published showing the damage caused by drones.

The publication says that the hits occurred, in particular, in the administrative buildings for the housing and management staff on this radar.

“The special piquancy of the situation lies not only in the functional purpose of the Voronezh-DM system, but also in its characteristics – the declared range of the target is up to 6 thousand kilometers, and this includes ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, as well as “space objects,” it said in the publication.

Journalists examined the diagram with the lookout areas and were able to verify that the affected radar overlaps the lookout area slightly over the temporarily occupied Crimea. At the same time, the main vector of its analysis is the Balkans and the Mediterranean as operational zones of NATO, as well as Asia, including the Persian Gulf.

It is also indicated that an interesting coincidence is that the first yesterday drones destroyed the Voronezh-DM in the Krasnodar Territory, and a few hours later, that is, on the evening of May 24 of this year, a satellite communication center near the temporarily occupied Alushta was attacked.

“And here it is also not possible to assume that this is “objective No. 1,” because both things are literally worth their weight in gold to the enemy However, this can happen based on the systematic efforts that the Ukrainian Defense Forces make to undermine the strategic potential of the Russian Federation “, the journalists wrote.

The publication recalled that the Russian Federation announced that there were allegedly about 10 Voronezh radars located, differing only in the operating frequency ranges. The one that the Ukrainians managed to hit operates in the decimeter range of radio waves and is said to be capable of simultaneously tracking up to 500 targets in the air.

The Russians also said that the construction period for such a radar could be about 12-18 months, and about 1.5 billion rubles could be spent on it.

“However, here we need to look not only at the formal cost indicator, but also at the actual commissioning date – for example, the Voronezh-DM system, which was damaged near Armavir, was actually launched in 2009,” said the publication. .

At the same time, in 2017 he was on “experimental combat duty.” This means that the Russian Ministry of Defense considers this station not ready.

Let’s recall that in April the media wrote that Ukraine might cross one of Russia’s “red lines” for the potential use of nuclear weapons. Then we talk about the drone attack on the over-the-horizon radar 29B6 Container, located near the city of Kovylkino in Mordovia. This system is part of the reconnaissance and warning system for aerospace attacks.
