The Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Alexey Makeev, called this desire recognition of the Ukrainian language as an important European language.
One of Germany’s federal states – Hesse – plans to introduce Ukrainian as a second foreign language in schools, and this is the first such intention in Germany to teach the Ukrainian language. Welt reported it.
It is reported that the Ministry of Culture in the Hessian capital Wiesbaden has already announced a competition for future teachers.
State Minister of Culture Armin Schwartz called this decision a “clear sign of unity” in Ukraine, Minister of International Affairs Manfred Penz – a contribution to the preservation of Ukrainian identity and culture, and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Alexey Makeev – the recognition of Ukrainian as an important European language.
“We do not want to leave Ukrainian refugees without roots and cut them off from their homeland, but on the contrary, we are building a bridge for their return to Ukraine,” said Penz.
It is noted that schools in other federal states also have separate language programs for learning the Ukrainian language, but it is not yet offered anywhere as a second foreign language.
Let us remind you that about 70% of Ukrainian refugees plan to stay in Europe. Almost half of Ukrainians work in European countries.
