Starting May 18, we are checking the availability of military registration documents for certain categories of citizens. There were refusals regarding these categories of citizens, because not everyone had this document with them and confirmation of a deferment from conscription. In particular, this applied to persons who have three or more dependent children under 18 years of age,” said Andrei Demchenko, a representative of the State Border Service, at a briefing on May 23, his words quoted by Radio Liberty.
According to Demchenko, “as of today, border guards daily refuse to cross about 200-250 men who do not fall under the pass categories.” Before this, he added, border guards on average refused to allow about 150-200 people to cross the border.
Border guards do not take into account the “Reserve+” application when crossing the border by men liable for military service, but check the paper military ID with the appropriate marks and data on the person in the databases of the State Tax Service and the Ministry of Defense.
