The power line connecting the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant to the United Energy System of Ukraine has been shut down.
Right now, one of the two overhead lines supplying the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is off. If the latter fails, another blackout will occur at Zaporizhia NPP. This was reported by the press service Energoatom on Thursday, May 23.
“Today, May 23, at 13:31, the external overhead line 750 kV Dneprovskaya overhead line, connecting the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant to the United Energy System of Ukraine, was turned off,” the message said.
Currently, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is connected to the Ukrainian energy system through only one power transmission line – 330 kV Zaporizhzhya Thermal Power Plant – Ferrosplavnaya.
SA Energoatom noted that in case of failure of this line at Zaporozhye NPP, another complete blackout will occur, which is a serious violation of the conditions for safe operation of the station and fraught with the development of an accident.
It was previously reported that the Russian military was using kamikaze drones at the nuclear reactors of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
In early April, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced three direct hits on the protective structures of the main reactor of the Zaporizhia NPP. Rosatom traditionally blamed the Ukrainian military for the strike.
