The Polish Minister of National Defense, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh, citing the experience of Ukraine, said that this contract refers to the country’s security.
Poland’s Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh signed a contract worth $960 million for the supply of four reconnaissance balloons, that is, balloons with suspended radars. RMF24 reported this on Wednesday, May 22.
The minister, citing the experience of Ukraine, said that this contract determines the country’s security.
It is reported that the contract will be financed by a loan from the US government under the Foreign Military Financing scheme.
It is planned that the Barbara system obtained in this way will be implemented in 2027. Four moored balloons with suspended radars will complement the existing air defense and reconnaissance system.
It is noted that wolves are capable of seeing objects at a distance of more than 300 km they are found along the eastern and northeastern borders of Poland.
Kosiniak-Kamysh emphasized that Poland will be the second user of these balloons, which, like the IBCS combat control system, will be integrated into the air defense system.
The procedure for the introduction of the Barbara system as a supplement to other intelligence tools has been prepared since 2017.
It was previously reported that Warsaw received a loan for the construction of the European Iron Dome.
