The significant number of military personnel is due to the difficult terrain in the Bürgenstock area, the scale of the operation, as well as the large number of distinguished visitors.
The Swiss Federal Council issued an order on security measures during the Peace Summit in the resort of Bürgenstock on June 15-16. The press service of the council reported this on Wednesday, May 22.
For the safety of the summit participants, Switzerland is ready to deploy up to 4,000 military personnel to assist the authorities of the canton of Nidwalden, where Bürgenstock is located.
The significant number of military personnel is due to the difficult terrain in the Bürgenstock area, the scale of the operation, as well as the large number of distinguished visitors.
According to Swiss law, the decision to involve more than 2,000 troops must be approved by parliament, but it will not have time to do so before the summit, so the Federal Council will give a report to lawmakers in the fall.
It is also reported that Switzerland will restrict the use of airspace in the Bürgenstock area in connection with the planned arrival of visitors protected by international law. The Swiss Air Force is involved in watching over the skies.
It was previously reported that Russia was trying to disrupt the Global Peace Summit. As Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said, for the Russians this is the second most important goal after the attack on the Kharkov region.
