The Moscow Times states that the Russian Ministry of Defense has prepared a resolution claiming part of the waters of the Gulf of Finland.
Russia has decided to unilaterally “change” the country’s maritime border with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea. The document was prepared by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The Moscow Times reported this in connection with a draft government resolution published on the portal of legal actions.
“Russia intends to declare as the internal waters of the sea part of the water area east of the Gulf of Finland, as well as near the cities of Baltiysk and Zelenogradsk in the Kaliningrad region,” the statement said.
The ruling regime of the Russian Federation intends to change the geographic coordinates of the points that determine the position of the baselines on which the width of the territorial sea of the Russian Federation, as well as the adjacent coastal zone and islands, is measured.
The Government of the Russian Federation in its resolution states that it intends to fix the border coordinates with Finland in the zone of the islands of Jähi, Sommers, Holland, Rodsher, Maly Tyuters, Vigrund, as well as near the northern entrance to the cape . of the Narva River.
The zone of the Curonian Spit in the Gulf of Gdansk, the areas of Cape Taran, the cape south of Cape Taran, as well as the Baltic Spit were subjected to “examination” of the Lithuanian border.
The authors of the document state that the current geographic coordinates established by a resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers in 1985 “do not fully correspond to the current geographical situation.”
“The points are recorded “using small marine navigation charts,” which, in turn, are based on work from the middle of the 20th century, and this “does not allow us to determine the outer limit of the inner sea water” of the Russian Federation,” the document said.
The resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR controlling the borders in the Baltic Sea region was proposed by the Ministry of Defense to be partially “recognized as non-functional.”
The Foreign Ministries of Finland and Lithuania have not yet officially commented on the Russian document on the “border review”.
Let’s remember that Finland has previously said that Russia, although it is unlikely to directly attack NATO countries, will continue with hybrid attacks, such as signal jamming and interference in elections.
