A group of congressmen called on US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to speed up arms supplies to Ukraine and allow it to destroy American weapons on Russian territory. This was confirmed by the corresponding appeal of the Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives of the United States of America, published on microblog X.
The congressmen said they want to support some urgent requests from Ukraine. In particular, they are calling on the Pentagon to allow the Ukrainian army to use American weapons to strike strategic targets on Russian territory “under certain circumstances.”
“Ukrainian officials have watched for weeks as Russian troops attack Ukrainian population centers from Russian territory with impunity. Ukrainians are unable to defend themselves due to the current policies of administration. The Biden administration must authorize Ukraine’s military leaders to conduct a full range of operations to respond to Russia’s unprovoked attacks on their sovereign territory,” the appeal said.
Congressmen are calling for more Ukrainian pilots to be trained to operate American F-16 fighter jets. According to the US Air Force, the US plans to graduate only 12 pilots by the end of this year.
They recalled that the allies invited seven additional Patriot batteries to protect Ukrainian territory from Russian missile attacks.
The letter states that aid to the Ukrainian army is being received in insufficient quantities and untimely, exacerbating the difficult situation at the front.
