Ukraine can’t hold free elections because of ongoing Russian attacks and millions of refugees, says Peter Stano.
The European Union does not doubt the legitimacy of Vladimir Zelensky as the President of Ukraine. The corresponding statement was made by the representative of the Commonwealth diplomatic service, Peter Stano, in a briefing in Brussels on Tuesday, May 21.
According to him, Ukraine cannot hold free elections because of the constant attacks by Russia and millions of refugees.
“It is impossible to organize elections in such a situation. Is it possible to gather people at the polling stations under these conditions,” Stano said.
He believes that in Ukrainian society and in political parties there is no doubt who is the legitimate head of state.
“And we also have no doubts about who is the president of Ukraine. It is Vladimir Zelensky,” concluded Stano.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice said that President Vladimir Zelensky will not lose his legitimacy after the expiration of his five-year term in office on May 21, 2024. His power will last until the next head of state is elected .
GUR also reported that Russia has developed a “three-layer” plan to destabilize Ukraine, consisting of military, disinformation and international components.
