China is working for a Taiwan “problem resolution” and national “unification,” the PRC government stressed.
China accused the new Taiwanese President Lai Chinte of delivering a “dangerous message” in his inauguration speech on Monday, May 20. This accusation was made by the spokesperson of the Chinese Government Office for Taiwan Affairs, Chen Binhua, Ukrinform reports .
“In his speech today, Taiwan’s regional leader stubbornly adhered to the position that Taiwan should be independent, promoted separatism, incited confrontation on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and called on external forces to support the independence of this region,” he said.
The Chinese official said that “Lai is going against the grain, sending dangerous signals of independence that undermine peace and stability in the strait.”
“Taiwan’s independence and peace across the Taiwan Straits are incompatible… We will never tolerate and will never allow any separatist movement for Taiwan’s independence in any form,” the spokesman said.
Chen Binhua added that China’s desire to “solve the problem” of Taiwan and achieve national “reunification” is unwavering, as well as its determination to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Let’s recall that the new President of Taiwan, Lai Chinte, in his inaugural speech called on China to recognize the government of Taiwan and start a dialogue with Taipei.
As you know, the presidential election in Taiwan was held in January. Taiwan’s Vice President Lai Chinte won.
