Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri confirmed the death of President Ibrahim Raisi as a result of a helicopter crash on May 19, Reuters reports.
According to the IRNA news agency, the Iranian government has called an urgent meeting regarding the death of Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials.
The media published a photo of the chair where Raisi usually sat at government meetings – it was wrapped in black tape.
State television reported that footage from the scene showed the helicopter Raisi was flying in crashing into a mountaintop.
Mehr News clarified that the governor of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan Malek Rahmati and Ayatollah Mohammed Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the province of East Azerbaijan, were also on board the helicopter.
The country’s first vice president, Mohammad Mokhber, is expected to hold the presidency until the next election.
Let’s remember that on Sunday, May 19, a helicopter carrying the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, had a “hard landing.”
It was also reported that rescuers on May 20 found a helicopter that crashed the previous day in the mountainous northwestern part of Iran.
