The department took this step after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius requested 3.8 billion euros in support of Ukraine.
The German Ministry of Finance has not officially approved a request from the Ministry of Defense to allocate additional funds to help Ukraine, reports Bild am Sonntag, citing sources in the department.
According to the publication, the department took this step after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius requested 3.8 billion euros in support of Ukraine.
This is due to the fact that almost all of the allocated 7.1 billion euros were used, and only 300 million remained for the purchase of new weapons and ammunition, the material said.
The unexpected budget costs must be submitted for approval by the German parliament in June, the publication notes.
According to an unnamed source in the German Ministry of Finance, Berlin should provide more weapons to Kyiv this year.
“If we can reach a consensus with the government, we will find ways (to do this) in the current fiscal year,” the source said.
We remind you that Bild sources reported that for 2025, the German Ministry of Defense has pledged a record amount of 15 billion euros in aid to Ukraine.
Germany, along with the United States, will transfer additional HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine.
